Clark Bardsley

Clark Bardsley runs an award-winning design studio in Auckland that is truly multidisciplinary. His projects range in scale from the tiny to the architectural, and everything in between. Every project is treated as an opportunity to work with new materials and processes, and to provide some joy in the everyday.

Often applying a playful approach to his design process, he is known for exploring different material qualities with a distinct interest in furniture design. Each project is seen as an opportunity to experiment, letting the behaviour of materials guide the outcome.

Clark’s mission is to bring to life conceptual ideas using his solid understanding of how things are made, and an insatiable curiosity about the world. From his eponymous studio and workshop located in Grey Lynn he collaborates with manufacturers and brands locally and abroad.

Clark was educated at Victoria University in Wellington, receiving a Bachelor of Design with honours in Industrial Design. His first job was at brass-ware brand Methven where he learned the opportunities and constraints of mass-market and mass-production. This experience put him in good stead for a 4-year stint in London as senior designer for British studio PearsonLloyd. Returning to New Zealand in 2013, Clark setup his own studio.
