Josephine Jelicich is an Auckland-based furniture maker and designer whose practice bridges fine art, craftsmanship, and contemporary furniture design. With a deep appreciation for materiality and traditional woodworking techniques, her work explores the relationship between form, function, and the inherent character of timber.
Jelicich graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Arts from Massey University in 2016 before completing the Furniture Makers' Programme at the Centre for Fine Woodworking in Whakatū Nelson in 2018. While studying fine art, she discovered a desire for a more hands-on creative practice, leading her to pursue furniture making as a discipline that combines artistic expression with technical precision.
Alongside commissioned furniture, she develops personal projects that investigate sculptural form and domestic space, and has exhibited her work in galleries including Objectspace, Precinct 35, Season Gallery, and Laree Payne Gallery. Her thoughtful approach to making reflects a commitment to craftsmanship, careful handwork, and creating enduring objects that celebrate both material and process.
