Rupert Herring

Rupert Herring is a designer and artist who combines his skills as a cabinetmaker with his knowledge of materials to create work that explores ideas of transformation and potential within the realm of used objects and materials. His practice is centred on making something new from something old.

Many of his works are nostalgic visions within a world of throwaway excess and economic efficiency gone awry. It is his intention that these works breathe through time rather than become suffocated by it. Society’s cast-offs are made beautiful through an alteration of form, playing with the tension created by how an object has been changed and seizing the opportunity to shift its relevance.
