Samuel Montgomery is a New Zealand-based artist and maker whose practice spans sculpture, furniture, ceramics, and forged steel. Working at the intersection of art, craft, and design, he creates objects that blur the boundaries between functional furniture and contemporary sculpture. Through an intuitive, material-led approach, Montgomery explores how timber, clay, and steel can embody histories of growth, labour, and transformation.
Collaboration is central to his practice. He has worked with artist Tyrone Te Waa, developed work alongside blacksmith Jon Hall and ceramic artist Jack Tilson, and continues to expand his practice through exchanges with artists and makers across disciplines. In 2026, Montgomery received support from Creative New Zealand to develop new work and is currently presenting a major body of work at The Arts House Trust, Pah Homestead.
