Shannen Young

Based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Shannen Young is a multidisciplinary artist working across jewellery, fashion and textile-based adornment. Her practice is guided by intuition, experimentation and play, resulting in tactile works that explore the possibilities of material, form and personal expression.

Young’s pieces move freely between object and accessory, costume and sculpture. Her approach embraces the unexpected, allowing materials and processes to influence each work as it develops. This sense of spontaneity gives her pieces a distinctive character, balancing considered craftsmanship with a playful and exploratory sensibility.

Drawing from the languages of jewellery, fashion and contemporary craft, Young is interested in how objects interact with the body and transform through wear. Her multidisciplinary practice challenges traditional ideas of adornment, creating expressive pieces that can be worn, handled or appreciated as sculptural objects in their own right.
